When it comes to vehicle safety, Certified Sounds is the place to go on the island of Maui. We offer many different collision avoidance solutions. From backup sensors to backup cameras, we can ensure that you know what’s happening around your vehicle, even when you can’t see. Let’s a look at two custom backup camera installations that we have done.
Always An Option
Many people believe that there are only two ways to have a backup camera system in your vehicle: You can order it when the vehicle is new or get an add-on system that puts a monitor on your dash. New car option packages can cost a great deal of money, since you may get options you don’t need in the technology package. An add-on system is a very common solution. However, there is another option if your factory radio has a color LCD screen. We can use that screen to display an image from an aftermarket camera.
Ford F-150
A client from Lahaina recently brought his brand-new 2016 Ford F-150 to us to have a backup camera system installed. We worked with Nav-TV, one of our suppliers, to provide a completely factory-looking solution for the truck. The Nav-TV NTV-KIT376 is a custom camera mount that was designed specifically for 2007 and newer F-150 trucks. It also works with 2011 and newer Super Duty vehicles, and 2009 and newer Ford Flex trucks. The high-resolution color camera is built into a replacement Ford badge that mounts to the rear of the truck. It looks completely stock.
To interface with the 4” display on the factory radio, we used a Nav-TV NTV-KIT600. This kit provides a dedicated camera input and requires no cutting. It simply installs in-line, with the signal going to the display. The same kit is compatible with most Ford vehicles that offer the 4” radio display.
Lexus SC430 Coupe
The SC430 Coupe features a large LCD screen in the center of the dash to display navigation information. We once again turned to Nav-TV, this time to the RGB-LEX+ video interface module. This unit allows us to feed a camera signal into that factory screen and trigger it automatically as soon as the vehicle is in reverse gear. We mounted a Nav-TV TOYCAM2 above the rear license plate. This angled surface mount camera is stealthy, but provides a crystal-clear image.
