Makawao Fiat 500 Audio Client Gets Some Upgrades

Fiat 500 AudioA client came to Certified Sounds in Wailuku, Hawaii, looking to upgrade the audio system in his new Fiat 500. He liked the car but was disappointed with its factory audio system. He commented specifically about the lack of overall volume capability and that there was no bass. We took a look at the car and developed a plan to improve the audio performance without breaking the bank. With the client’s approval, we booked an appointment to do the work.

A Solid Foundation

Fiat 500 Audio

The Alpine amp packs a lot of power but is small enough to install under a seat.

We started with the installation of an Alpine PDR-V75 amplifier. The PDR-V75 is a five-channel class-D amplifier rated to produce up to 75 watts for the front and rear channels and 350 watts for a subwoofer. We added an Alpine RUX-KNOB to give the client the ability to adjust the subwoofer level from the front seat without using the radio. To keep costs under control, we left the factory radio in the Fiat and connected the amplifier to the factory radio outputs. This approach keeps the interior looking stock. We mounted the amplifier under the passenger seat to keep it out of the way

Add Some Bass

The client wanted good, clean bass without sacrificing the storage area in the vehicle. We provided several options, and the client chose the JL Audio SB-FIAT-500/10TW3 Stealthbox. This series of subwoofer systems is designed to maximize space in each vehicle they are developed for, while providing excellent bass response. In the case of the Fiat 500, the enclosure is a small, sealed design that fits into the corner of the hatch area. The 10TW3-D4 subwoofer is wired to present a 2 ohm load to the amp for maximum output. JL Audio includes a mesh grille to protect the subwoofer from damage.

Speak Clearly

Many of the interior pieces were removed to install the amplifier and the speakers.

The client chose new front and rear speakers for his vehicle. We installed a set of Alpine SPS-610C components in the front doors and a set of Alpine SPS-610 coaxial speakers in the rear. We used the factory speaker locations for the new Alpine Type-S speakers to keep the installation simple and efficient.

We finished the installation by confirming the acoustic polarity of each speaker and set the amplifier for great output without the chance of it distorting. Proper system configuration and setup are paramount to the performance of every audio system – this is something we focus on with our customers.

Client Loved His Fiat 500 Audio Upgrade

The client returned to Certified Sounds to pick up his car and have his first listen to the system. He loved how loud it played, and that the bass was clean and deep without taking up too much space.
